Promotion of agro-ecological growing of nontraditional plant – GGF supported project

Project goal:

Promotion of agro-ecological growing of nontraditional plant for ensuring sustainable income generation for rural women in Armenia.

Activities:

  1. Training of rural women on agro-ecological cultivation of fruits, vegetables and essential oil containing plants
  2. Development of new income stream for organic smallholder farmers, particularly women
  3. Training sessions and experiences from a pilot region are used by more small farmers in Armenia to practice agro-ecological cultivation

Main objectives:

  • Agroecological growing of nontraditional essential oil containing plants provides new opportunity to secure a valuable new income stream for rural women.
  • Secure the livelihoods of low-income farmers
  • Promotes safer practices without the use of hazardous pesticides and fertilizers.

Results:

The strategy for project implementation was chosen based on SWAT analysis in order to increase the strengths and to reduce the weakness of villagers.
